Hopi Archaeology Project

University of Redlands

Our Work

A primary goal is to present information about Hopi history that is engaging and easy to interpret, especially for a younger audience.  Recent efforts have focused on creating 3D reconstructions of ancestral Hopi villages.  Ultimately, we hope to build a virtual ancestral Hopi landscape, where a user can "fly" through time and space to explore a clan's migration pathway to Hopi.

Regional Database

As of 2011 we have conducted detailed recording at more than 30 large Hopi villages on Antelope, First, Second, and Third Mesas.

Mapped Sites

We have assembled a regional database of more than 1,200 Ancestral Puebloan villages across Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah, spanning the time period from A.D. 1150-1700.
