University of Redlands, Redlands, California
Workshop I: February 3-5, 2006
Workshop II: March 10-12, 2006
About the University of RedlandsThe University of Redlands is a private, independent liberal arts university, which emphasizes academic rigor, curricular diversity and innovative teaching. It also encourages a pluralistic notion of values by challenging assumptions and stereotypes in both classes and activities. Redlands remains sensitive to contemporary trends in society, and challenges students to commit themselves to a lifetime of learning. Cross-cultural studies and experiences are integral part of Redlands’ liberal education.
The university's Asian Studies Program is an active and growing interdisciplinary program, based in the humanities and social sciences. It has helped promote the inclusion of Asian contents in the wide range of courses offered at the University of Redlands, which in turn generated the original idea of the proposed project. The University of Redlands was designated the regional center for the Asian Studies Program in April, 2004, and is poised to serve Southern California, and more broadly the Southwestern U.S., as a mentoring institution for faculty development in Asian Studies.
The City of Redlands is 60 miles east of Los Angeles via I-10 and 20 miles east of Ontario International Airport. For more information about the university, please visit its official site.
