Dr. Roger Ames is Professor of Philosophy, University of Hawaii and Editor of Philosophy East and West. He is the author of numerous interpretive books and studies on Chinese philosophy and culture, and the translator of many of the Chinese philosophical classics.
Dr. Peter Hershock is Coordinator, Asian Studies Development Program Summer and Outreach Programs, East-West Center. He is the author of three books on Buddhism and a forthcoming edited volume on technology and cultural values. He is particularly interested in addressing contemporary issues through the resources of Buddhist thought and practice.
Dr. Paul Pickowicz is Professor of History at the University of California at San Diego. He is the author or editor of numerous publications on Marxist intellectual thought, rural Chinese society, popular culture in contemporary China, and history of the Chinese cinema.
Dr. C. Scott Littleton is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, Occidental College. He has published extensively on Japanese myth and religion. He has also done extensive field work in a Tokyo neighborhood, focusing on its annual matsuri, or Shinto shrine festival.
Dr. Sawa Kurotani Becker is Assistant Professor of Anthropology, University of Redlands. Her research centers on the interconnection between globalization, gender and cultural/national identity. She conducted multi-sited fieldwork in U.S. cities to study the transnational migration of Japanese corporate families.
