The University of Redlands and the East-West Center cordially invite the general public, educators and students, and the business community to a one-day symposium on “Asia-Pacific Trade, Cultural Flows, and Social Dynamics” at the campus of the University of Redlands on September 24, 2011.

This symposium is a lead-up event to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit that will be held in Honolulu November 12-13, 2011. APEC is the premier economic organization in the Asia-Pacific region that facilitates economic cooperation. The United States will host 20 heads of state and ministers from the dynamic economies of Asia, Latin America and North America.
With generous financial support from the East-West Center, the ASDP Regional Center of the University of Redlands has put together a substantive program featuring distinguished university faculty from across the country. Jeffrey Wasserstrom, noted historian of China and public intellectual whose commentaries have appeared in such publications as Time, The Nation, and The Huffington Post, will deliver a luncheon keynote speech on “China in the American Imagination.” Rangashree Dances of India will perform a combination of Bharatnatyam and folk dances. Please join us for a lively and informative discussion of the economic, cultural and social impact of trade relations and cultural flows among the nations of the Asia-Pacific region, with special focus on the United States and East Asia.
A registration fee of $25 includes all sessions, light breakfast, lunch, refreshments and cultural performance. Space is limited; please register by September 14, 2011, after which the registration fee goes up to $35.
